Black Lake (Černé Jezero) is the country’s biggest naturally formed lake. If you make it there, you can follow the marked red trail to Devil’s Lake (Čertovo Jezero); Black Lake can be reached via the yellow hiking trail from Špičácké sedlo. The name comes from the apparently black colour of its waters, which is due to reflection of the surrounding dense forests.
Černé Jezero and Čertovo jezero can be reached on a flat walk, from the car park (25 CZK per 1h) behind Hotel Karl, but there also is a free parking nearby if you are lucky to get a free spot. In summer, the walk from the car park to the lake, would be around 30 minutes and in winter it took us 45-50 min with constant stops to take pictures. Fair warning, there are no cafe/toilets at the lake, so be prepared:)
If you are heading to this area during winter months, make sure to have winter tyres. You will need a Czech toll sticker only if you plan on using the Czech motorways. The shortest duration for the toll is 10 days and costs 310CZK. You can buy it at any petrol station on Czech side of the border. Pay with Czech Koruna or a credit card, not Euros, as you are unlikely to get a good exchange rate. http://www.motorway.cz/stickerhttps:/...
