Crispy Fried Ice Cream with Strawberries & Chocolate Sauce.
Ingredients:
For the Ice Cream Balls:
4 large scoops vanilla ice cream (frozen very hard)
2 cups cornflakes, finely crushed
½ cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (mixed into cornflakes)
2 large eggs
2 tablespoons milk
Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Toppings:
Fresh strawberries, sliced
Chocolate sauce or syrup
Whipped cream
Mint leaves (optional)
Instructions:
1. Prep Scoops: Scoop the vanilla ice cream into 4 large, firm balls. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for at least 1 hour until rock hard.
2. Breading Station: Prepare three shallow bowls.
Bowl 1: The all-purpose flour.
Bowl 2: Whisk together the eggs and milk.
Bowl 3: Mix the crushed cornflakes and cinnamon.
3. Coat: Roll a frozen ice cream ball in the flour, shaking off excess. Dip it quickly into the egg mixture, then roll it in the cornflakes to coat completely.
4. Double Dip (Crucial Step): To prevent the ice cream from melting into the oil, dip the coated ball back into the egg mixture and roll it in the cornflakes again for a second thick layer.
5. Freeze Again: Return the coated balls to the freezer for at least 2-3 hours (or overnight). They must be completely frozen before frying.
6. Fry: Heat oil in a deep fryer or deep pot to 375°F (190°C). Carefully lower one or two balls into the hot oil. Fry for just 10-15 seconds until golden brown. Do not overcook, or the ice cream will melt.
7. Serve: Remove immediately and drain briefly on a paper towel. Transfer to a plate/bowl and top immediately with whipped cream, sliced strawberries, and a heavy drizzle of chocolate sauce. Serve at once.
