Singapore: In 2020, the Singapore government announced the final award of two 5G licenses to Singtel and to Joint-Venture Consortium, a JV between Starhub and M1. Now, Singtel has recently announced it has achieved over 95% standalone 5G nationwide coverage. This comes more than three years ahead of the regulatory target of end 2025 , effectively making singapore the first country in the world to be fully covered by standalone 5G.
This covers more than 1300 outdoor locations and over 400 in-building, as well as immense opportunities for the development of ground breaking application.
The Singapore government has earmarked SGD25 billion (USD18. 1billion) in R&D funding until 2025 to drive transformative technologies supporting efforts to maximize the benefits of digitalization. The forecast is that 55% of Singapore will have adopted 5G by 2025.
“With this, it sets the stage for the development of a world-class, resilient and secure 5G infrastructure which will be the backbone of Singapore’s digital economy,” said Mr. Iswaran, Former Minister for Communications and Information (MCI) .
On further, The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) on Wednesday August 3 2022 unveiled three more 5G projects to help Singapore use the fifth-generation mobile network in different areas for a better consumer experience.
