可是現在問題在哪裡？什麼是善、什麼是惡搞不清楚，這就難了。能夠辨別利害、善惡，在現前這個社會就算是上根之人。千萬人當中，說老實話，難得有那麼三、五個，絕大多數的人不知道利害，不曉得善惡。把惡當作善，把善看作惡，把真正的利看作害，把害看作利。你跟他講他也不相信，他不能接受，他說你這個說法過了時代，你是迷信。這種人就是佛經裡面講的「一闡提」，一闡提是梵語，中文的意思是沒有善根的人。沒有善根的人，佛菩薩不能幫助他，為什麼不能幫助？不肯接受。


The problem today is that many people cannot distinguish between good and evil, which makes things difficult. Those who can discern benefits and harms, good and evil, are considered exceptional in our society. Truthfully, among thousands of people, only a rare few—perhaps three or five—have this ability. The majority cannot tell the difference between what is beneficial and harmful, or what is good and evil. They often mistake evil for good and good for evil, seeing true benefits as harmful and harms as beneficial. When you try to explain this to them, they don't believe you and dismiss your views as outdated or superstitious. Such individuals are described in Buddhist scriptures as "Icchantikas," a Sanskrit term meaning those without good roots. People without good roots cannot be helped by Buddhas and Bodhisattvas because they are unwilling to accept guidance.
