Jury Sees Training Records For Cop On Trial For Uvalde Mass Shooting Response

Описание: The former school district police officer on trial for child endangerment for his response to the mass shooting at a Texas elementary school was so highly trained that he taught classes at the police academy about how to respond to mass shootings.

Jurors heard about Adrian Gonzales’ training today (Tuesday, January 13, day 5) from Teresa Zamarripa, an office manager at Southwest Texas College Law Enforcement Academy.

Sworn peace officers in Texas are required to complete 40 hours of continued education courses every two years. Zamarripa detailed the reporting process, including in-service hours and cadet certifications.

She reviewed Adrian Gonzales' personal status report, showing his extensive training history, including 83 college credits, 1660 higher educational points, and various certifications. Gonzales also taught classes at the academy, as evidenced by an instructional lesson plan.

Prosecutor Bill Turner questioned her in direct-examination.

"Yes."
"And is he the man sitting at the far end of defense table?"
"Yes, sir."

10:21 "It says where he received his training hours. It's got institution. It's got Southwest Texas,Junior College. He has 83 college credits total, higher educational hours are 83 hours. And then it says total higher higher educational points 1660 hours. Total military hours is zero, so that the total is 1660 hours."

11:43 "He started back in 2010 he started working as a peace officer for the Uvalde Police Department, and he the service ended on 7/16, 2021, and then he went to work for the school district starting July 19 of 2021, through November 18 of 2022"

14:19 "And how many hours credit did Adrian Gonzales get for taking the active shooter training course in December of 2021?"
"Eight hours."

16:40 "How many hours of SWAT training did he get?"
"He received 60 hours of training."

21:30 "So in addition to Adrian Gonzales taking some classes from y'all, I believe he testified earlier that he also trained for y'all. Is that correct?"
