According to the locals, Rainaskot was the place where Drabya Shah, the youngest son of the then King Yashobrama Shah of Lamjung, lived in the 16th century.
According to the tradition of choosing the king of Ligligkot, the race was held every year on the day of Vijayadashami and the first person to reach Ligligkot after the start of the race was considered the king for one year from that day. On the next day of Vijayadashami, a new king was chosen by running again.
