Описание: Louis Albert Pio the founder of The Danish Social Democratic Party - moves to Amerika and died in Chicago - Illinois in 1894

In the following years, of course, the contradiction between government and the Folketing was sharper than ever, but the Right had never been more joined than then, and Estrup never exercised a more unquestioned authority and became more popular within his party. This mood in the Right culminated when the young typographer Julius Rasmussen on October 21, 1885, unsuccessfully attacked the president of the council. Julius Rasmussen tried to shoot him on an open street outside Estrup's home on Toldbodvejen 34 (now the Esplanade) in Copenhagen, where Frederik 6.'s mistress Mrs. Dannemand had lived. It failed when the first bullet bounced off a coat button while the second drilled into the gate where you could see the hole for a long time.

Regular legislative activities were virtually halted during the first years of the Provisional Period, and what the Government itself carried out through interim laws and on "expected additional appropriations" was essentially only military measures, with the intention of carrying the capital's fortification towards the country side and supplement the already existing sea fortress, as well as various measures of a major suppressive nature, such as the establishment of a gendarmerie corps (the so-called "blue gendarmes", inter alia described in Henrik Pontoppidan's short story The First Gendarm), laws on extraordinary police measures, on restrictions on procurement and the use of weapons, and in addition to the Criminal Code and the Press Act, which tightened the censorship, and were aimed at criminalizing the opposition's criticism of the government.

From 1887 the legislative work seems to have started again, and attempts were made by both parties to an agreement on the Finance Act, which did not, however, lead to anything. In the 1890-91 collection, a relatively fruitful period of reform began with Estrup's approval, but without active leadership on his part. Also during the conciliation negotiations conducted in the sessions of 1892-94, and which, on April 1, 1894, brought fruit in the adoption of a regular Finance Act, the president of the council took a relatively passive position. However, he eventually approved the settlement, and on the same day that the Finance Act was passed in the County Council, a statement calling for his resignation. The ministry's departure then took place on August 7 of that year. After his resignation, Estrup was honored by the king, who had already decorated him with the Elephant Order as early as 1878, by conferring rank on the ministers. He was already a Grand Cross Knight of the Dannebrog Order and Dannebrogsmand. The Right Party also showed him his appreciation in various ways, and the County Council elected him as its chairman.

Assessment of Estrup:

Estrup's political strength lay in his character's tenacity and in his steadfast assertiveness. He was born a man of government: it was natural for him to be persons and commanders, and his personality irrevocably captured his surroundings. He was, as a speaker, clear and concise, his words closely related to thoughts, and his knowledge was confident and independent as far as it went. He was by nature orderly and of a nervous temper; men continue to carry out themselves, where he has designed and fastened sitting with nurturing facilities to see others who were in his public performance made him safe and calm, giving his speeches their crisp and sharp cut form. As prime minister, his main characteristic was, as soon as major political considerations came to the fore, and some frugal caution, and a marked inclination to stay on the "safe side". As a finance minister, he has practiced and only examined the financial detail, including in the field of other ministries, ending any of his predecessors since W.C.E. Sponneck. Estrup's shortcomings are closely related to his advantage. His steadfastness and self-confidence did not infrequently degenerate into stiffness and susceptibility to influence others. Since sinning in the County Council, he was her, where his will for so many years played the decisive role in all cases, unable to get a majority spoken with him, and even within the Right his influence - despite the great reverence, man always met ham - not always the controlling one. With a willpower that also earned his opponents respect, he remained a dog to the end, despite his old age and increasing physical fragility, to actively and often effectively in the struggle for the statistics and societal view that he was the highest for so many years. representative of.
