The 51.38 km Bairabi–Sairang railway line, which is set to connect Mizoram's capital Aizawl to the country's rail network, has been completed. Once operational, people can travel to Aizawl via Silchar by train. Sanctioned in 2008–09, its foundation stone was laid in November 2014. Built through steep and rugged terrain, this engineering marvel features five stations along with 48 tunnels and 55 major and 87 minor bridges. But constructing the railway line was no easy task. It involved overcoming immense geographical and logistical challenges. Local residents of Mizoram have welcomed this latest infrastructure development in their state. Many say, the rail network opens a new chapter of ease, access, and opportunity.
