Legomanbiffo Class 37 (Wensleydale special edition) - pull-away sounds demo. using LokProgrammer

Описание: The intention of this video is to demonstrate the prototypical engine sound behaviour that can be achieved through a well-executed sound project and careful use of the DCC throttle/controller.

Diesel electric locomotives (like the English Electric Class 37 locomotive demonstrated here) have no direct drive transmission between engine and wheels - rather the mechanical force of the engine is converted to electrical energy (via a generator) and that is used to drive traction motors.

This means that when lightly loaded, the locomotive can move-off from a stand with the engine at idle (i.e. without necessarily increasing engines revs.). This behaviour is rarely simulated with DCC sound. Instead, it is common to hear engine revs increase somewhat before the locomotive moves (that would be correct for heavily loaded locomotives or other forms of transmission e.g. diesel mechanical).

The decoder being used for this demo. is an ESU LokSound v5 L DCC. The LokProgrammer interface and software have been used to upload the modified sound project to the decoder, configure CVs and map functions, prior to installation in a Heljan O gauge Class 37/0.

Another feature demonstrated here is the “manual brake”. The decoder has been programmed with a high inertia setting (CV4) that means that the loco. speed will reduce quite slowly, even after reducing the DCC throttle speed-step. To decelerate more quickly, a function key can be used as a brake - the longer the key is depressed the more pronounced is the braking effect. Here I have re-mapped the manual brake to F2 (from F5, to match my locos equipped with Zimo decoders and Paul Chetter sound projects).

N.B. The sound you hear in this demonstration was achieved only after Legomanbiffo (Ian Bishop) very kindly but expertly modified the standard project to my requirements, to suit a small O gauge layout with lots of shunting, low-speed train movements (see @springmillstreet on FB).
