Watch Wednesday's ITV Evening News as a US submarine sinks an Iranian warship in the Indian Ocean

Описание: US Defence Secretary, Pete Hegseth confirmed that an American submarine had torpedoed an Iranian warship in the Indian Ocean that "thought it was safe in international waters".

The Sri Lankan navy said it has recovered 87 bodies and rescued 32 people off the coast from where the warship sunk. It has initially received information that 180 people were on board.

The sinking comes after the US and Israel continued strikes on Iran for a fifth day with the Israeli military beginning a "broad wave" of strikes on Tehran.

More than 1,000 people have been killed in Iran since the war began, according to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency.

Iran continued retaliatory firing missiles and drone strikes against its Gulf neighbours and Israel. Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard said it targeted Irbil in Iraq, two military bases in Kuwait, and two US warships.

The guard said via Iranian state television that it is prepared for the "complete destruction of the region’s military and economic infrastructure."
