The Maintainers hosted our very first Lightning Talk- a space for experts working in repair, care, and maintenance to share what they’re building, fixing, preserving, and still figuring out!
From archives and architecture to medical systems, craft, and sustainability, speakers brought insights that reminded us: maintenance is expertise, care is labor, and repair is creative work.
The Lightning Talk featured Deborah Streahle, who researches the history of medical waste and hospital systems; Regina Carra, an archivist advancing assessment as a strategy for preservation and institutional care; Miriam Rae Devlin, a general contractor and researcher examining repair, patchwork, and crafted landscapes; and Betty Rexrode, a restorer specializing in Danish Cording and sustainable repair practices.
