🏛️ WHAT IS THE PEARL HARBOR VISITOR CENTER?
Managed by the National Park Service, the visitor center serves as the entry point for the four distinct historic sites at Pearl Harbor. While the USS Arizona Memorial is the most famous, the visitor center itself is home to two incredible museums, outdoor monuments, and the Remembrance Circle.

📜 THE HISTORY: A RECAP OF THE ATTACK
In the early morning of December 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy launched a surprise aerial strike from six aircraft carriers. Their goal? To cripple the U.S. Pacific Fleet and secure Japan's expansion into Southeast Asia.

The First Wave (7:55 AM): Targeted airfields (Hickam, Wheeler, Kaneohe) to prevent American planes from taking off.

The Explosion of the USS Arizona (8:06 AM): An armor-piercing bomb ignited the ship's forward magazine, causing a massive explosion that killed 1,177 sailors and Marines instantly.

The Casualties: By the end of the two-hour attack, 2,403 Americans were dead and the U.S. was officially thrust into World War II.

💡 ESSENTIAL VISITOR TIPS (READ BEFORE YOU GO!)
Planning a visit? Pearl Harbor is one of the most visited sites in Hawaii. Here is the "must-know" info:

Tickets are REQUIRED: To see the USS Arizona Memorial, you must have a reservation. These are released on Recreation.gov 8 weeks in advance and again 24 hours in advance. They disappear FAST!

The Clear Bag Policy: NO bags are allowed in the memorial. This includes purses, backpacks, and camera bags. You can store them for a fee at the baggage storage near the entrance.

Dress Respectfully: This is a gravesite. While there is no strict dress code, shirts and shoes are required, and many visitors choose to dress modestly to show respect for the fallen.

Allow Time: You need at least 3–4 hours to see the visitor center and the Arizona. If you plan to see the USS Missouri (The Mighty Mo) or the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, you’ll need a full day.
