How can I tell the Gender of a noun in Greek?

Описание: Couple of days ago, I asked you guys in my instagram account ''how do you prefer me to teach?'' (btw if you aren't a member of our instagram family you should definetely follow so you can learn Greek phrases and useful expressions in a daily basis) A great majority voted for Greek with English captions (79%). So this is the first lesson in Greek and I hope you will enjoy it!

In today's lesson, I explain as simple as possible a quite confusing topic for any type of learner : the Genders in Greek.

Part 1: The Gernders in Greek are 3. Masculine, Feminine and Neuter and we can easily recognise them if they have their definite article. What if there is no article to help us? In this case we should have a closer look to their endings.

Masculine nouns usually end with ς
Feminine nouns usually end with -α, -η, -ου
Neuter nouns usually end with -ο, -ι, -μα

Pay extra attention to Female ending -α and the Neuter ending -μα!

Part 2:
-The natural Gender doesn't always agree with the natural one.
For example, το αγόρι (boy) is masculine as a natural gender and neuter according to grammar.
-All Greek alphabet letters are neuter although they end to -α
-Note that grammatically only a number of jobs or professions refer to both a male and a female eg. ο/ η γιατρός. Δάσκαλος is a male teacher and δασκάλα is a female teacher.
