Jacob Coutie won Miromoda’s Emerging Designer award in June and has been selected to show his menswear collection ‘Toa’ at 2017 New Zealand Fashion Week’s NZPost Miromoda Showcase. His menswear is heavily inspired by the natural environment on New Zealand. In creating this collection, Mr Coutie researched common perceptions of Toa as an interpretation of rangatiratanga. While often depicted as a warrior, Mr Coutie dug deeper under the surface to uncover meanings that are often lost in translation, such as bravery, success and fearlessness.
