Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the first phase of the Navi Mumbai International Airport, the city's second international hub. The project, with a cost pegged at 19,650 Crore rupees, is intended to ease air traffic congestion and drive economic growth in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The new airport's initial phase has a capacity of 20 million passengers annually and is built on 1160 hectares of land. A reporter noted, "this will be a very important piece of infrastructure because Mumbai Airport single-handedly has been taking the load for 80 years of a growing metropolis like the city of Mumbai."
