Today's California Zephyr #5 arrived in smokey Fort Morgan at 0556 MDT (10 min. off). P42s #23 & #14 powered the 8-car train to a stop with car 7 to the station platform for 1 traveler off and 1 commuter on. Meanwhile, a final visit with Mr. Darrell took place. I am elated for him to be stepping into retirement. Thank you again, Darrell for the coffee and your warm smile! I will miss you being here and look forward to reading your comments.
With the station work safely accomplished, the high ball was given and on a clear signal, the Zephyr rolled west, hopefully out of the smoke, toward its next stop at Denver's Union Station.
My thanks to the operating crew for the greetings. And again, to Darrell for the coffee and a final greeting!

The smoke is from a prairie fire south of Ft. Morgan in open range.
Temp: 30 F. feels like 21 F.
