A Mesquite family says they’re grateful to be alive after an alleged drunk driver plowed through their living room in the early hours of Sunday morning, but they’re frustrated the man accused is already out of jail on a $1,000 bond.
It happened around 2 a.m. at the home of Antonio Navarro off of Concord, who says he was jolted awake by the sound of what he thought was a loud explosion. Navarro told WFAA he thought he was dreaming.
"It wasn’t until the alarm started going off and I was like, okay, yeah, this is really happening,” Navarro said.
The family’s security cameras recorded the moment a truck slammed through the front wall of the home. In the video, the truck breaks apart the living room — the same space where Navarro’s children walk and play each day — before coming to a stop.
Navarro’s two young daughters were asleep at the time. His son, who was awake, happened to be in the restroom when the crash happened, thankfully.
“We’re just happy. One of the lucky families that were able to walk out,” Navarro said.
The driver can be heard in the footage checking on the family after the crash. Mesquite police identified him as Jereme Perrin, who was arrested at the scene and charged with DWI. It’s his second DWI arrest since 2023.
Court records show Perrin had a prior DWI case pending at the time of Sunday’s crash. Despite that, he was released from jail on a $1,000 bond.
“To hear that this is the second time, that’s intolerable,” Navarro said.
