if you're all out of noodles but you have some flour, salt, and an egg you can make homemade spaetzel!
spaetzel is a German dumpling that is a very simple quick fix when you have very little time.
you don't need to wait for the dough to rise.
just mixed together a couple cups of all-purpose flour
a couple teaspoons of salt
one egg
and enough water to make the dough tacky sticky and a little bit runny. so maybe a cup to a cup and a half of water
use a cheese, grater or a spaetzel maker to drop the dumplings into boiling water.
let them boil for about a minute or two and then scoop them out or stream them in a noodle strainer. and there you go. that's all you need to do!
I like to serve this with a pork roast and gravy
but I also like to fry them in butter in the morning and eat them with some raspberry jam.
