Remote shooting (using a PC) with my Canon camera only allows access to the "macro" mode, not "super-macro", so that prevents me from taking pictures closer than about 9cm. For stop-motion animation using tiny LEGO-style bricks, you often need to get closer than that. So I recently purchased some close-up lenses for my canon ps s2 IS, a set of 3: +1, +2, +4. They can be combined in various ways to get every integer +1 to +7. Each image is labelled noting the close-up amount, if any, was being used. For example, the +3 image is using the +1 and +2 lenses in tandem.
Following the close-up lens test is a little test of my camera's auto white balance feature. Though the first images look good, as the motorcycle speeds away, the camera re-adjusts its white balance along the way which causes the video clip to "go yellow" a bit. This test proves that you need to set the white balance to some manual setting when doing stop-motion animation.
