KSP - Viking 1 and 2 - Pure Stock Replicas

Описание: For me the Viking program is the big break through for Martian exploration. With both orbiters and landers performing superbly and giving us data which was still considered fresh 20 years after the mission. As a child the images from the landers left a huge impression on me and ever since I have been obsessed with trying to understand alien environments in an intimate way. Now thanks to Kerbal Space Program I can attempt to understand the spacecraft that brought us this information in an intimate way too.

The craft were very fun to make and apart from a couple of concessions have all of the features I wanted for a decent mission recreation. I guess for me my main goal was to create some folding stock solar panels and I was so happy with the result I nearly made a video just for them :) Note I tweaked the craft later so the lander engines aren't activated by attitude adjustment, this made the first landing a bit choppy.

There are so many things I have missed from this video to keep it to about 5 mins but hopefully I have got all of the bits people want. I wanted to show more of the long term orbit changes like raising the orbit to make it safer when the fuel starts to run low etc.

Also in general I don't have all of the orbital information I need like where the ascending nodes are so even though all of the spacecrafts orbits launched in this series are to scale with each other they cannot be used as an accurate mars spacecraft orbit map which is a shame because I cannot find one anywhere.
