How could the series 7 Arnold Rimmer become Ace Rimmer
Today a quick, simple, but important question, how did the chronically inept Series 7 Rimmer manage to go off and become Ace Rimmer?

To recap, in the S7 episode ‘Stoke me a Clipper’ The ultra charming, inter-dimensional hero Ace Rimmer arrives in the familiar red dwarf dimension, with only a limited time to survive. Needing to recruit his replacement and with no alternative, its the chronically cowadous, perpetually pathetic and intolerably idiotic Rimmer bsc ssc that must take up the mantle of Ace Rimmer.
After just a brief lesson and a staged fight, he’s on his own and sent off to face the forces of evil in the wildfire.
But with so little preparation, and such a low starting point, how on earth could this ridiculous excuse for a man ever hope to live up to even an ounce of Ace’s capability?
It certainly seems unlikely that our Rimmer could ever overcome his inner coward, stretch beyond his little fingers' worth of charisma or possess more than a puebic louce’s worth of charm!
Well I’ve often wondered this one and figured that surely he was a no hoper, until very recently when I was a guest on the ‘Everybody is dead dave’ podcast with Phil and Adam that an idea was proposed that might solve it all.
We were discussing the well known luck and sexual magnatism virus’, first seen seen in Series 5’s ‘Quarenteen’ and later in Series 8’s ‘Back in the Red’ were originally accompanied by two other’s we never saw used, ‘Inspiration’ & ‘Charisma’, and it was Phil who questioned, ‘maybe the original Rimmer took them with him when he went off to be Ace?’.
At the time I said that Phil might have struck gold, and the more I’ve thought about it, the more it seems like a brilliant idea!
‘Inspirational’ & ‘Charismatic’ are certainly two words I’d use to describe the brilliant Ace, so if Rimmer had the foresight to grab the remaining vials of both & give himself suitably sizable doses, that might have been just the ticket to turn himself into Ace!
Okay, I dont have much supporting evidence to help me out with this theory, except that it would explain why in Series 8 theres only the Luck virus and Sexual Magnatism left in the crashed Starbug.
Plus, if they eventually wore off or ran out, then Rimmer would revert back to his usual pathetic self and possibly, probably, come rejoin the crew, is this the hologram Rimmer we meet from Back to Earth onwards?
