The world's largest technology show opened in Germany on Thursday.
More than half a million people are likely to attend the fair to see the latest in computer and other communication devices.
The event, known as 'CeBIT,' which is being held in Hanover, also brought together political rivals - the German Chancellor Helmut Kohl toured the fair on the same day as Gerhard Schroeder, who will stand against him in elections later this year.
German Chancellor Helmut Kohl - who had opened the world's largest trade fair in computer and telecommunications industries - toured the stands on Thursday to see what the future holds for the industry.
But with a record number of 72-hundred exhibitors from around the world, he could not hope to cover the whole site.
Instead, he focused on these three-D glasses.
The chancellor will no doubt have hoped to avoid the gaze of his main political rival.
Also at the fair on Thursday was the Social Democrat Gerhard Schroeder, who has secured his party's nomination to run against Kohl in September's election.
Schroeder leads the opinion polls and is tipped to topple Kohl, who has been
in power for 16 years.
But while he is still firmly in charge, Chancellor Kohl took time out from the fair for a meeting with the Malaysian Prime Minister, Mohamad Mahathir.
They discussed the economic problems in Southeast Asia.
Officials said the two men expressed their mutual belief that Malaysia would continue to cope with the current situation on financial markets in the region.
They also discussed the opportunities open to German companies by Malaysia's economic developments.
The CeBit fair opened to the public from Thursday and will end on March 25.
It is expected to attract well over half a million visitors.
On show will be the latest developments in computer hardware and software - as well as personal communications devices.
Nokia are showing off the Electronic notebook and at the Intel stand was an exhibition of the evolution of the Pentium.
Siemens was keen to show off a phone that recognises its owner's fingerprint.
For all these corporations the competition in the sector is fierce.
Much money and attention goes on making exhibitions stand-out.
Others though take a more humorous approach - using mime artists to show the benefits of a mobile phone.
