Описание: The Workers’ Party (WP) has called for a new spirit of caring, competition and confidence in politics. Chairman Sylvia Lim, who made this call in a GE2025 party political broadcast on Thursday (May 1), said WP's repeated queries in parliament have pushed the government to help Singaporeans more than it otherwise would have. But the government needs to extend more care and to do so more thoughtfully, she added. In her call for a new spirit of competition, Ms Lim said WP makes carefully researched suggestions on the use of the national reserves, improvements to the criminal justice system and on the GST, among other matters. It will continue to raise alternatives to government policies. Academics, industry experts and the public can assess them and with time, good suggestions may have to be implemented by the People's Action Party (PAP) because of pressure from various branches of society, she said. Calling for a new spirit of confidence, Ms Lim said the future may be unpredictable but that should not distract Singaporeans from the fact that they are ready for a First World Parliament. Even if they elect all WP's candidates, the PAP will still have a strong mandate to govern but it will govern subject to scrutiny by well-qualified, dedicated and independent WP MPs, said Ms Lim.
