Malware can sound like a scary, highly technical term, but protecting your devices is easier than you might think. Welcome to Part 3 of our Connected & Secure series, brought to you by SourcePoint.
In this video, we demystify malware and provide you with simple, actionable steps to secure your computer and personal data.
In this video, we cover:
1. Understanding Malware: Malware is a type of malicious software designed to damage or disrupt your computer, steal your information, or hold your data for ransom. Certain types of malware include viruses, spyware, ransomware, and Trojans.
2. How Infections Happen: These programs can sneak on your computer through email attachments, fake software updates, or visiting malicious websites. Downloading software or apps from untrusted sources is another risk.
3. Antivirus Solutions: You can protect yourself if you install reputable antivirus software and keep it updated. Some well-known antivirus software vendors include Bitdefender, Eset, and McAfee.
4. Built-in Windows Security: If you are using a Windows computer, you already have antivirus protection built in called Windows Security, sometimes known as Windows Defender. You can check if it is running by looking for the Virus and Threat Protection section in the Start menu.
5. Built-in Mac Security: Apple has built in several strong security features to help protect you, such as Gatekeeper, XProtect, and System Integrity Protection (SIP).
6. Prevention Habits: Regularly update your operating system, browser, and antivirus software to protect against unknown vulnerabilities. Be cautious with emails by double-checking the sender's address and not opening attachments or clicking on links from unknown senders.
