After Pakistan’s 61-run defeat against India in the T20 World Cup match in Colombo, star batter Babar Azam has come under heavy criticism. Several former Pakistan cricketers have demanded major changes in the T20 squad following the humiliating loss.

In the one-sided clash, India set a target of 176 runs, with young opener Ishan Kishan smashing 77 runs off 40 balls. Pakistan were bowled out for 114 runs in 18 overs, failing to handle India’s pace and spin attack.

Former captain Shahid Afridi said that if it were up to him, he would not select Babar Azam, Shadab Khan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi again in the T20 team, urging the inclusion of young players.

Former skipper Javed Miandad admitted the team failed to show character under pressure in a big match. Meanwhile, Mohammad Yousuf also questioned the future of senior players in the T20 format.

Adding fuel to the debate, former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar criticized Babar’s “superstar” status, saying a true superstar wins matches for the team.

With growing pressure, calls are rising to drop Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Shadab Khan from the Playing XI.
