Under the Amrit Bharat Scheme, Indian Railways is rapidly progressing with the redevelopment of Madurai Junction. The design of the new station building is unique, as it will feature a gopuram (temple tower) on top, resembling the iconic Meenakshi Temple from a distance. A special corridor is also being built to connect both the eastern and western parts of the station, enhancing connectivity and infrastructure.
