In my latest training video, I found myself in the picturesque San Francisco Bay Area, California, gearing up for an upcoming 10K race. Running is a sport that travels well, requiring only your trusty trainers and running gear, making it ideal for my short stay in the Golden State.
The training session for the day was a "cut down" workout, involving progressively faster paces. It kicked off with a solid six minutes at my threshold pace, followed by brief two-and-a-half-minute recovery. Then came the challenging part: two sets of four-minute sprints at my 10K race pace, with just 90 seconds of rest in between. I aimed to hit paces between 4:05 and 4:10 per kilometer during this phase. Finally, I tackled four two-minute intervals at my 5K race pace, with a mere one-minute recovery between each.
Despite the intensity, I managed to meet my target paces, relying on the weeks of dedicated training I had put in. As I wrapped up my run along the scenic San Francisco Bay, I also highlighted the importance of incorporating strength training into my routine in the weeks to come.
But the adventure didn't stop there! I embarked on challenging hikes in Yosemite National Park, which not only strengthened my legs but also exposed me to breathtaking natural beauty. Now, as I head back to the UK, I'm looking forward to battling jet lag with early morning runs, late-night flights, and unforgettable experiences like those in Yosemite. With around 60 kilometers logged for the week, I'm feeling optimistic about my training progress and the potential for an exciting race ahead, possibly next Wednesday. Stay tuned for more updates as I continue to push my limits in the world of running.
