Phase Two – Pivot Installed & Rolling
In this phase, the sheet goods dolly moves from concept to real shop tool.
Yesterday, I laid down two layers of plywood for the base, ordered heavy-duty locking casters, and mounted the upper frame. At that point, the structure was solid and already functional.
Today’s focus:
Installing the ½" pivot bolt
Finalizing the 4x4 mast structure
Building a simple locking mechanism
Mounting the heavy-duty casters
Adding the plywood top if time allows
The pivot uses a ½" bolt with large washers for a strong, smooth hinge without overbuilding the joint. The goal is simple: solid lumber, clean load paths, and a tool that makes handling sheet goods easier in a small shop.
Phase two is where it stops being a mock-up and becomes part of the workflow.
