Lighter One [A Sanders Sides Fansong]

So a few people will know me on my other channel, CeruleanSailor, or from Tumblr as thegoodshipotp. However, I've set this account up separately to my covers one as this will be used for the more fandom-based stuff. So what better way than to open with a song I wrote for the Sanders Sides videos?

Following an amazing post by www.alien–stranger.tumblr.com, I got into a conversation on Discord (join us here:   / discord  ) over the possibility of a Sanders Sides musical. And from that conversation, I ended up putting together this little ditty for Virgil, based on the events just before Accepting Anxiety (Part 1).

My guitar-playing is v e r y rusty, but hopefully it gives an idea of the tune.

Lyrics:

I never mean to cause his panic,
I only want to keep him safe.
And though my methods can be harsh, yeah,
They’re only ever for his sake.

The others see me as a Dark Side,
Their smiles all fade when I appear.
And though their views may all be different,
My showing up’s their biggest fear.

I’ll never be one of the Light Sides,
Blazing through him like the Sun.
No, I’m not one to play pretend,
Know I can’t be bright like them,
Just want to be a Lighter One.

I didn’t mean to be the Bad Guy,
Just one who looks before he leaps.
But every time I get his guard up,
The ‘what if?’s haunt him as he sleeps.

Though it hurts me to admit it,
He’ll do much better if I’m gone.
Perhaps it’s time to step away,
Pass the other three the reins,
And let his days be brighter ones.

They’ll never see me as a friend,
Should just duck out and let it end:
I’ll never be a Lighter One.
