We Need to Talk About Greeting Cards

We start with a simple question that somehow turns into a full-blown investigation:
Who decided greeting cards should cost $7.99 and why are we all pretending that’s normal?
From there, things spiral — as they tend to do.
We talk about the slow, awkward death of the traditional mall in some regions of the country (how it's thriving in others), why food courts were secretly holding society together, and how outlet shopping somehow became just regular shopping with better lighting.
Then we pivot (hard) into movies. Specifically: why modern films feel like they’re built for the attention span of a gnat, how spectacle replaced storytelling, and why “trying” feels optional now. It’s not a film school rant — we promise.
Things get weirder from there. We talk about a guy who’s lived on a cruise ship for 25 years, the economics of never unpacking, and why that somehow makes more sense than most housing markets.
We also touch on outdoor hockey in Florida...yes Florida
Along the way, there are holiday reflections, family stories, mild nostalgia, and a general acknowledgment that the world keeps changing whether we like it or not — and we’re all just reacting in real time.
Nothing too serious.
Nothing too polished.
Just observations, sarcasm, and a few moments where we stop and go, “wait… is this actually better?”
If you’ve ever stood in a card aisle questioning your life choices, missed when malls were chaotic but alive, or wondered when movies stopped caring — this one’s for you.
