On 08-FEB -2024……..

With the typical thinking to reach the destination before it's dark, we started early from Roing. Previous day we travelled from Walong to Roing via Tezu
While we were kept apprised by the locals that Mayudia Pass(8711 Ft) has been shut for transit past days, there were high chances to be open since the snowfall stopped from past day.
Took our chance and started our journey towards Anini. From Roing in no time we hit the climb and narrow roads towards Mayudia Pass, it was about 01 hour later the snow started to be seen. Though we had no idea it was to be extreme snow ahead of us.
Surprisingly none stopped us neither there were any check posts, most likely because we started very early and none would have thought a tourist can reach so early!
Once we started to see the full white snow around, we knew we were all alone and cabin has become super silence with fear and anxiety.
We moved on until the vehicle can move firmly and doesn't glide due to black ice. Fortunately, we have reached the top i.e. Mayudia Pass and we were the only ones to be there!
After about 90 minutes just us with joyous moments, we have seen 02 riders coming in from the opposite side, have asked them on the condition of road's ahead of us and they confirmed that the BRO started to clean snow while it was the snow that was covered up to knees couple days ago! Lucky we are!
The distance to cover ahead in snow was informed to be 12 long KMs. More to worry about! Deflated the tires, moved to manual mode and maintained linear momentum. We continued our journey to Anini with enough terror!
We started to descent very slowly at 10-18 KM/HR speed. In the go, we have seen stalled vehicles for days with snow covered and the near miss trucks hanging at the edges.
With mixed emotions, we chose to be optimistic and moved ahead. Just like the saying 'there is a light at the end of the tunnel', we started to see blacktop road. Hope is alive!
We descended further and had a small stop to get out of the car and cherish on how brave and fortunate we were!
