After a small/short discussion in this podcast about why Allah told the angels and Iblis to prostrate down to Adam, a human being, we have come with a few (FarTaha) theories about what reasons this could be.
The normal thought would be that it was a prostration of obedience, but then again why not just bow rather than prostrate. Maybe because it was more difficult for Iblis to prostrate to something else that he thought HE was better than, rather than him denying to prostrate because ALLAH is better than Adam. This shows that the prostrating may not be the prostrating that he does to worship Allah, but a sign of obedience and humility.
And rather than Iblis/Shaytaan apologizing for his wrongdoing, he then justified it to Allah that what he did was right, for so-and-so reason. Man, oh man... what a mistake!
