Wolfgang Jacobi was one of the first composers in Germany to write classical works for the saxophone. He reworked an accordion piece to create the Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra in 1961. The Saxophone Concerto was premiered in Munich, 1967, by Carina Rascher. After the performance, the orchestral parts were lost, but through diligent work of the composer’s grandson, Dr. Andreas Ullrich, the music is once again available. This performance is the first time this piece has been played since the premiere almost 60 years ago!
