Construction began on D-Day itself, prioritizing the rapid establishment of Emergency Landing Strips (ELS) and then moving on to more developed strips and ALGs. This was achieved by leveling fields, sometimes using local farm equipment, and covering the surfaces with materials like Pierced Steel Planking (PSP) to create operational runways for fighter planes and light bombers.
