Tricks Humans Used To Hunt Prey Larger Than Themselves. Humans are not the strongest animals, nor the fastest, nor the biggest. Throughout history, humans have used a variety of strategies that allowed them to hunt other animals that were stronger, faster, and bigger than they themselves were, without any of the modern technologies we have today.
Some of the strategies prehistoric humans utilized for this were:
Persistence hunting: making use of the fact that humans were able to dissipate heat more efficient over long periods of time through their skin-wide sweating, while other animals could not sustain activity, such as running away, for long period of time.
Pit trapping: humans ingeniously dug very large pits, covered them with foliage, and then drove animals to fall into the pits.
Spear hunting: humans invented spears, which allowed them to do something no other animal could: attack from a distance.
Studying the land: humans planned their hunts, studied their environments, and made use of the environment.
Disguising: humans would wear the skins of other animals in order to get up close to their prey.
Poison: humans would put poison on their spearheads which would fatigue if not kill their prey.
All in all, it was humans intellectual, organizational, and technological capabilities that allowed them to become the top predators of the planet.
