Exp.11: “Cockcroft Walton Voltage Multiplier Circuit: A) To plot input-output voltage characteristic. B) To observe the spark between the electrodes” by Dr. T. G. Arora, Electrical Engineering Department, Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management, Nagpur (India).
Cockcroft Walton Voltage Multiplier Circuit is the most popular way of generating high DC voltage at low current using a transformer, diodes and capacitors. Transformer required is of relatively low rating as each stage gives DC voltage of double the peak value. The voltage across each stage is twice the peak input voltage, hence low rating diodes and capacitors are required and it is easy to insulate. One can tap the output from any stage. The objective of this experiment is to study the input-output characteristic of the Cockcroft Walton Voltage Multiplier Circuit and its application in breakdown mechanism.
