Federal judge blocks termination of TPS for Haitians

Описание: A federal judge has granted the request to stop the termination of a temporary protected status for an immigrant population in Springfield.
According to reports from the AP, U.S. Judge Ana Reyes blocked the Trump administration’s efforts to end the protected status of Haitian immigrants, which was scheduled to expire on Tuesday.
Without the protection status, the Haitian population under the TPS could have faced deportation back to Haiti.
Dayton 24/7 Now's Kaitlyn Herman spoke to community leaders just hours before the expiration was blocked.
Community leaders said between 12,000 and 15,000 people who escaped unrest in Haiti, coming to the United States under Temporary Protected Status, stood to lose everything.
“We've been through a lot as Haitians. We've been through those natural disasters, political upheavals, instability. So when we came here, we did not come for this. We came in search of peace. We came in search of a place to live and for our kids to be at peace," said Viles Dorsainvil, Executive Director of the Haitian Support Center.
This has been a contentious issue and has divided a lot of people in the Springfield area, and across the country. Several people commented on Dayton 24/7 Now's Facebook page in support of TPS ending.
