Richard Fransham, a member of the Advisory Board at The Peace School, holds an M.Ed. from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) and has taught for many years in Ontario’s public school system as well as at the Faculty of Education, University of Ottawa. Early in his teaching career, Richard recognized that public schools were not providing the kind of environments young people need to truly flourish. This realization sparked a lifelong commitment to educational reform that has spanned more than four decades.
Today, Richard’s central focus is on building bridges between conventional schools and what is increasingly recognized as a new paradigm for education, one that values student autonomy, community, and well-being.
In 2017, he co-founded Uniting for Children and Youth with local parents, where he continues to serve as Director, advocating for student rights and fostering innovative learning communities.
In this webinar, Richard will share his personal journey in education and his lifelong commitment to reimagining schooling. He will explore how humanistic, peace-centred, and democratic principles can guide the education of conventional education systems into ones that truly empower students to thrive.
