Описание: World Cup 2026 Day 8 — June 18 — was the most emotionally complex day of the tournament so far. Joy, history, heartbreak and a superstar performance that put Jonathan David on the golden boot shortlist.

In Atlanta, Czechia led South Africa 1–0 through the first half thanks to Sadílek's early strike, but the Bafana Bafana woke up in the second 45 and Teboho Mokoena converted a penalty to earn a precious point. Both sides are still alive — and Group A is going to the final matchday.

In Los Angeles, Switzerland were locked in a tense 0–0 against Bosnia-Herzegovina until 20-year-old super-sub Johan Manzambi came off the bench and hit an outstanding volley to break the deadlock in the 74th minute. Switzerland then scored three more in a stunning 20-minute burst — Vargas, Manzambi again, and Xhaka from the spot — to run out 4–1 winners and go top of Group B.

Then Vancouver. Canada 6–0 Qatar. Canada's first-ever win at a men's World Cup. Jonathan David — who hadn't scored from open play in over a year — delivered a hat trick and his teammate Cyle Larin opened the scoring. Nathan Saliba came on as a substitute for the injured Ismaël Koné and scored a stunning free kick in tribute. Canada also benefited from two Qatar red cards and an own goal. Coach Jesse Marsch walked off the pitch holding up six fingers. No one in Canada will forget this night.
The shadow over the evening: Ismaël Koné suffered what appeared to be a serious leg injury after a reckless challenge and was stretchered off — he was later confirmed to be heading for surgery. The crowd fell silent. Then Saliba scored. Football at its most human.

Finally, in Monterrey, co-hosts Mexico beat South Korea 1–0 through Luis Romo's 50th-minute goal to secure back-to-back wins and book their place in the knockout round.
Day 8 verdict: Canada have arrived. Can they go all the way? Drop your prediction below.
