Kevin Chow is a current junior at Saratoga High School and a child of the Silicon Valley. His early art consisted of rulers and tracing paper — painful perfectionism at its childhood finest. Then in the fourth grade, he began going to his teacher’s studio, where he developed a foundation in pencil sketch and compositional theory. In hopeful renunciation of his old perfectionism and turning instead towards explorational outlets, he branched off into a variety of experimental techniques, including those involving fire, fingerpainting, and foam blocks. Most recently, he’s been working with polystyrene foam and acetone. In this talk, Chow discusses traditional art forms, experimental art, and his journey to use inventive form for self-expression. This talk was filmed at TEDxSaratogaHighSchool, an independently organized TED event (April 15, 2016).
