Quantum Europa 540AT - Vintage Hard Drive Sounds

Описание: The Europa was Quantum's third and last generation of 2.5-inch IDE hard disks. They did not see widespread use, so aren't too terrible common today. I've come across two of them, both of which were aftermarket upgrades, so I'd assume that they were mostly sold standalone, rather than being used by OEMs.

Like the Daytona line, the Europa drives suffer from the rubber bumper problem. I don't believe there are bumpers under the platters though.

This drive has not yet succumb to the bumper issue, but I have been watching it deteriorate before my eyes. You'll notice three instances in this video where the drive runs into bad sectors. In the hour since I recorded it, the drive now has deteriorated so badly that it won't boot Windows anymore, all just from doing ScanDisk runs. Classic Quantum.
