Bangladeshi exiled author Taslima Nasrin said she has supported the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) for over 40 years, calling it essential for any civilised society. She alleged that Hindu women in Bangladesh lack basic rights, including the right to divorce, and claimed religious laws have worsened the condition of women. Nasrin further alleged that Hindus have faced increased persecution during the Yunus regime, criticised the rise of Jamaat-e-Islami, warned against growing religious fundamentalism and Sharia rule, and claimed the country is moving towards a "dark age" while the government remains focused on retaining power.
