This is one of many impression techniques used to capture the border extensions selectively for an immediate denture. It can also be used for distal extension removable partial dentures as well. A custom tray is fabricated for those regions that you intend to capture with border molding and wash (PVS, polyether) - that is then picked up with an alginate impression.
