KALAYAAN BRIDGE or BGC-Ortigas Bridge Update | Sta. Monica-Lawton Bridge is now Open

Описание: The KALAYAAN BRIDGE or Bonifacio Global City (BGC)-Ortigas Bridge, also known as Santa Monica – Lawton Bridge was opened to serve the motorists last Independence Day, June 12, 2021,

With a project cost of 1.3 Billion Pesos, the BGC–Ortigas Link Bridge, is 440 meter, four-lane, two-way bridge that will connect across Pasig River the Lawton Avenue in Makati City and Sta. Monica Street in Pasig City.

From the usual 1-hour drive, motorists coming from BGC can already reach Ortigas or vice versa in just 12-minutes; and the bridge will be able to accommodate around 50,000 vehicles per day.

The Bridge entrance is at the Kalayaan Avenue and the exit is at Fairlane in Ortigas.

Currently, safety checking is being conducted in order to ensure its built quality and conform with the safety standards, while some finishing touches are also being done.

A state funded project, this mega project was approved by NEDA for implementation last April 23, 2015, under the Aquino administration.

Pre-construction activities of this project which included the preparation of the detailed engineering design was also started under the Aquino administration; while the Ground breaking and inauguration ceremonies, which signalled the start of the construction, was held last July 19, 2017 under the Duterte administration.

The Sta. Monica-Lawton Bridge or the BGC-Ortigas Bridge is the Phase 1 of the 1.367 kilometer BGC-Ortigas Road Link Project; and is part of the government’s program of decongesting EDA. Major roads like EDSA are expected to decongest more than 10% in volume because of this project.

Also part of the project that will traverse Lawton Avenue to the entrance of BGC is the construction of Lawton Avenue – Global City Viaduct with on-going preparation for bored piling at BGC and road widening at 8th Avenue.

Meanwhile, full blast works for the rehabilitation and widening of Brixton Street (corner Reliance Street) to Fairlane Street with a total length of 476.577 meters, 159.629 meters approach road at abutment 1, and 125 meters up and down ramp between pier 8 to 13.

Upon completion of the entire BGC-Ortigas Road Link project, accessibility between cities of Pasig, Mandaluyong, Taguig and Makati will be improved; while traffic congestion in EDSA and C-5 will be alleviated.

Target completion of the entire Road Link is by September 2021.
