"O you who believe, why do you say what you do not do?" (61:2)
Allah is calling the believers and warning them about something dangerous: when words and actions don't match.
This verse is about truthfulness.
About keeping promises.
About being people whose speech can be trusted.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
The signs of a hypocrite are three: when he speaks he lies, when he promises he breaks it, and when he is trusted he betrays.
So this ayah is not just correcting speech.
It is protecting faith.
Because hypocrisy does not begin with disbelief.
It begins with small betrayals of truth.
Ramadan is the month to purify the tongue, align words with actions, and become people whose promises reflect their iman.
