Probability helps us solve problems where the outcome is uncertain, such as determining the chance that a leap year starts on a Wednesday. A leap year has 366 days, which is equal to 52 weeks and 2 extra days. Because of these extra days, the calendar shifts, and the first day of a leap year can be any one of the seven days of the week.
Since there is no preference for any particular day, we assume that each day of the week is equally likely to be the first day of a leap year. Probability allows us to analyze this uncertainty in a systematic way. By identifying the sample space as the seven days of the week and selecting Wednesday as the favorable outcome, we can calculate the required probability.
This type of problem helps students understand how probability is applied to real-life calendar situations, making abstract concepts simple and logical
