Dr Adi Schlebusch, head researcher at the Willem Petzer Groep, and I just finished our study into the total cost of Infrastructure decline since 1994. The findings in this study include:
The full cost of infrastructure decay, being at least R23.5 trillion ($1.23 trillion), more than 3 times SA's GDP.
This number is supported by a Sector-by-sector breakdown, Electricity, Roads, Water, Rail, and Telecoms, using only published numbers that can be verified. Thus, the real number is likely much higher, as we could have missed some cases, or some cases were not reported.
Why South Africa now loses R2.1 trillion every year due to collapsing infrastructure.
The chilling reality: South Africa needs R5.8 trillion more to prevent total collapse by 2030, as calculated by the African Bank Development Institute.
In this video, we present the full study.
