In today’s WECAN episode, we’re honoured to speak with LGBTQ+ activist and award-winning advocate Moud Goba.

Moud is a refugee who grew up in Harare, Zimbabwe, where she witnessed the harassment and persecution of LGBTQ+ people firsthand. After fleeing persecution and seeking asylum in the UK, she has dedicated her life to advocating for the rights, dignity, and safety of LGBTQI refugees and asylum seekers.

In 2023, Moud was named a recipient of BET’s Global Good Award, which recognises global leaders who use their platform to champion social responsibility, justice, and the well-being of the global Black community. This prestigious award celebrates Moud’s tireless advocacy and her impactful work supporting LGBTQI asylum seekers and refugees.

Moud has been a valued member of the Micro Rainbow team for over eight years, bringing her lived experience as a lesbian asylum seeker into her work every day. She is also a founding member of UK Black Pride and currently serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees, continuing to shape inclusive and empowering spaces for Black LGBTQ+ communities.
