St. Mark's Basilica (Basilica Cattedrale Patriarcale di San Marco) is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Venice, Italy, located in the heart of the city on Piazza San Marco. Known for its Italo-Byzantine architecture, intricate gold mosaics, and opulent design, it was formerly the chapel of the Doge of Venice before becoming the city's official cathedral in 1807. The basilica is a major landmark, famous for housing the relics of St. Mark the Evangelist and for its historical significance as a symbol of Venetian wealth and power.
