In this blitz tournament game, I played on Board 1 against an under-12 Candidate Master (2212 classical).
I got a clearly winning position (+5 as White), and we both knew I was better.
At move 20, I should have played Ng5 or Rd5, keeping the pressure and converting the advantage. Instead, I chose a passive move due to lack of confidence at that moment.
It wasn’t calculation. It wasn’t understanding.
It was hesitation.
This game taught me that a winning position means nothing if your mindset isn’t ready to finish it.
The game was played 3 months ago, and today I feel much more confident and experienced because of lessons like this.
Hope this helps players who struggle to convert winning positions.
